Wawrinka, Dimitrov headline initial Wimbledon wild cards

Stan Wawrinka and Grigor Dimitrov are among the players awarded wild cards into the Wimbledon men’s singles draw, according to the initial list released on Tuesday morning.

Wawrinka, a three-time major champion and former No. 3 player in the PIF ATP Rankings, is competing in the final season of his career. The 41-year-old has twice reached the quarter-finals at the grass-court major and will look to enjoy one last run in southwest London.

Dimitrov, another former World No. 3 who currently sits at No. 169, returns to the main draw after a heartbreaking fourth-round exit in 2025. The Bulgarian held a two-sets-to-love lead over then-World No. 1 Jannik Sinner before suffering a pectoral injury and retiring. It was the fifth consecutive major appearance from which Dimitrov retired.

British players Jacob Fearnley, Arthur Fery, Jack Pinnington Jones and Toby Samuel have also been granted wild cards. The final two men’s singles wild-card recipients have yet to be announced.

Fearnley earned a main-draw win at Wimbledon on his debut in 2024 before taking a set off Novak Djokovic in the second round. Fery and Pinnington Jones scored their first victories at the grass-court major last year, while Samuel — at a career-high World No. 144 — is set to his first appearance in the main draw in SW19.

Alexander Bublik and Nick Kyrgios were among the teams to earn a wild card into the men's doubles event. Kyrgios reached the singles final at Wimbledon in 2022 and fell to Djokovic in four sets.
