Former Top 40 player J.J. Wolf earned a milestone in his resurgence Sunday when he won an ATP Challenger 125 title in Vancouver, his biggest triumph since 2021.
The 27-year-old American — who was unranked as recently as February — was sidelined for a full year due to a right shoulder injury. Now, five months into his comeback, Wolf was crowned champion at the Odlum Brown VanOpen, where he defeated Mark Lajal 7-5, 6-1 in the final.
Wolf was making just his sixth ATP Challenger appearance of the season. In June, he won an ITF M25 title in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Cincinnati native will look to build upon his momentum when he returns to his home city and competes as a wild card in qualifying of the ATP Masters 1000 event.
On 22 June, Wolf was the No. 926 player in the PIF ATP Rankings. Following his victory in Canada, the former Ohio State University star is up to World No. 282, rising 644 spots in six weeks.
Diaz Acosta atop Challenger season leaderboard
Facundo Diaz Acosta captured a season-leading fifth ATP Challenger title at the Internazionali di Tennis San Marino Open. The top seed raced past Croatian Mili Poljicak 6-1, 6-4 in the clay-court final.
Diaz Acosta, 25, secured his return to the Top 100 for the first time since February 2025. The Argentine, who reached a career-high No. 47 in 2024, has won all five of his Challenger titles this season on clay: Tigre-2, Sao Leopoldo, Francaville al Mare, Milan and San Marino.

Kumstat, 19, makes breakthrough at home
#NextGenATP Czech Jan Kumstat capped a memorable week on home soil in Liberec, where he claimed his maiden Challenger crown. The 19-year-old wild card downed defending champion Gonzalo Bueno 6-3, 6-1 in the title match to become the first Czech champion in Liberec since Jiri Lehecka won the event in 2022.
Kumstat is up to 13th in the PIF ATP Live Next Gen Race. He is aiming for his first trip to the Next Gen ATP Finals, which showcases the season’s best 20-and-under players.
Debru, 2022 Roland Garros boys' singles champ, returns to winner's circle
Frenchman Gabriel Debru used a protected ranking spot at the Samsun Open in Turkiye and went all the way to the title. The 20-year-old, who has been unranked since February, earned his third Challenger trophy and first since 2024. Debru beat countryman Constantin Bittoun Kouzmine 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 in the final. The 2022 Roland Garros boys’ singles champion, Debru announced in June his transfer to the University of Texas. He was previously competing for the University of Illinois.
British No. 3 Choinski adds to title haul
Briton Jan Choinski earned his third Challenger trophy of the season with a dominant run at the Bonn Open in Germany. The 30-year-old did not drop a set en route to the title, including a 6-3, 6-2 final victory against Texas Christian University’s incoming freshman Jamie Mackenzie. Choinski also triumphed in Braunschweig and Zagreb this year.
