Alexander Zverev will have another shot at Grand Slam glory at Roland Garros Sunday when he faces Flavio Cobolli in the final. The German is seeking his first major title after falling short in his first of three championship matches.
With leading contenders Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic suffering early exits this year at the clay major, the draw opened up, but Zverev still had to navigate his own way through the tournament. The No. 3 player in the PIF ATP Rankings did just that and now once again finds himself one win away from a Grand Slam trophy.

2020 US Open: First major final
The 2020 US Open was only the second tournament played after the ATP Tour was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. For Zverev, it proved to be a breakthrough tournament where he reached his first major final. Ranked World No. 7 at the time, the German advanced to the championship match by rallying from two sets down against Pablo Carreno Busta in the semi-finals.
In the final against Dominic Thiem, Zverev raced to a two-sets-to-love lead and looked poised to clinch his first Grand Slam title before the Austrian fought back to level the match. The German still appeared in control in the deciding set, leading by a break and later serving for the championship. Zverev was just two points away from victory before Thiem staged another comeback, eventually prevailing in the fifth-set tie-break to deny the German his first major trophy.

2024 Roland Garros: First Roland Garros final
Zverev came close to a breakthrough once again, this time at Roland Garros in 2024, when he reached his second major final. His journey to the championship match at the clay major was particularly notable given what had unfolded in Paris in previous years. In 2022, he suffered an ankle injury during his semi-final match against Rafael Nadal and retired from the match before missing the remainder of the season. Zverev returned in 2023 to reach the semi-finals, where he lost to Casper Ruud.
A year later, Zverev went one step further by advancing to his first Roland Garros final, having defeated Nadal and Ruud en route. Facing Alcaraz in the championship match, the German held a two-sets-to-one lead and appeared in cruise control to claim his first major crown. However, Alcaraz responded by winning the final two sets, leaving Zverev to endure another narrow defeat in a major final.

2025 Australian Open: Latest major final
After enjoying one of the best seasons of his career in 2024, highlighted by two ATP Masters 1000 titles and a 69-21 record according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index, Zverev carried that momentum into the 2025 Australian Open, where he reached the third Grand Slam final of his career.
Awaiting the then-World No. 2 in the championship match was Sinner. Unlike Zverev's previous Grand Slam finals, this contest did not go to five sets, as Sinner produced a dominant display to triumph in straight sets. The German was unable to carve a single break point throughout the match as the Italian successfully defended his Australian Open crown and handed Zverev another defeat in a major final.
