(21 pts.). Began playing tennis at age nine. Enjoyed an outstanding junior career, winning the Spanish National singles and doubles titles in 1994. Won the Spanish #6 Satellite in 1995 (48 pts.), when he turned pro. Considers backhand as best shot and favorite surface is clay. Qualified for his first career ATP Tour tournament in Barcelona in April 1996 and posted his first career win over Andrei Chesnokov.
