  • Derbyshire native Nick Fulwood is remembered as a British qualifier who reached the 1989 Wimbledon third round (l. to Chamberlain). He received five Wimbledon singles wild cards (1984-89). He also qualified for the 1987 Australian Open, reaching the second round (l. to Edmondson). Fulwood captured the under-16 and under-18 British titles, the 1984-85, 1987 senior British doubles titles and was also the 1985 British singles runner-up (l. to Bates). On the ATP Challenger Tour, he won one singles title at 1988-Azores (d. Cunha-Silva) but had more success as a doubles player winning 10 titles at 1986-Nairobi (w/Felgate), 1987-Furth (w/Suk), 1987-Bloemfontein (w/Felgate), 1987-Madeira-1 (w/Felgate), 1989-Montabaur (w/Rittersbacher), 1989-Manchester (w/Brown), 1989-Nyon (w/Pimek), 1989-Thessaloniki (w/Brown), 1990-Telford (w/Brown) and 1991-Newcastle (w/Nyborg). He was also a doubles runner-up at 1987-Martinque (w/Bates), 1987-Madeira-2 (w/Felgate), 1989-Jerusalem (w/Brown), 1989-Nicosia (w/Cole) and 1990-Croydon (w/Brown). He attained a career-high No. 176 singles ranking (10 July 1989) and No. 118 doubles high (26 February 1990). Since retiring, Fulwood has worked as a coach and played on the senior circuit. � September 2009
