Began playing tennis at age 5.
The 1987 European Champion and five-time German junior champion.
Reached the 1986 Orange Bowl semifinals.
Teamed with junior Goran Ivanisevic to win the doubles title at Frank-
furt in 1988, upsetting top seeds Rick Leach and Jim Pugh in the semifinals
and Jeremy Bates and Tom Nijssen in the final.
Won his second doubles title at Palermo in 1989 (w/Peter Ballauff), up-
setting top seeds Smid-Taroczy in the first round, No. 2 Ivanisevic-Nargiso
in the final.
