Comes from a long line of college athletes.
Grandfather, Charles, played basketball, baseball and American football at Notre Dame, then went on to play for Cincinnati Reds (MLB) and coach for Detroit Pistons (NBA).
Father, Jeff, played basketball at Rollins College before playing pro tennis; mother, Brooke, played tennis at Miami University (OH); older sister, Danielle, played tennis at Ohio State University.
Joined his sister and played college tennis at Ohio State from 2017-19, posting 35-2 record as a junior and earning All-American and Big Ten Player of the Year honours.
Started playing tennis through mixed doubles on family vacations with his father, mother and sister. Says that pursuing a tennis career was a last-minute decision, while also playing soccer, basketball and baseball until sophomore year in high school. Was drawn to the "boxing mentality"of tennis where "you determine your own fate and only have to be better than your opponent on that day."
Favourite shot is forehand and surface is hard.

Underwent 2 hernia surgeries in early-2021 and wassidelined for 7months.
