One of the young Argentines inspired by the exploits of Guillermo
Vilas, Ganzabal is a delight to watch. He moves with what can be described
as a "graceful frenzy," on a clay court, lightning quick, hitting his ground
strokes with exaggerated topspin. Ganzabal was stricken with hepatitis
during the early part 1984, missing six months on the circuit. When he upset
Tomas Smid in North Conway this year, it was a sign that he had at last
recovered, and he gratefully acknowledged the congratulations of his fellow
Latin American players. These salutations were offered with genuine
sincerity as Ganzabal is one of the more popular players on the circuit.
