    Full name is Alex Patricio Calatrava...Began playing tennis at age nine...Born in Germany where parents were working before moving to Spain in 1980...Father, Jose, met his wife, Gabrielle, who is French, while working for a produce export company in Germany...Uncle Santiago Calatrava, is a renowned architect and designed roof of Athens Olympic stadium…Attended school in the United States from 1989-91, including one year of high school in Palm Springs, Calif., and one year of independent study in Indian Wells, under guidance of Jose Higueras...Played tennis in California and ranked as the state's No. 1 junior in 1991...Speaks Spanish, English, French and German...Considers clay as favorite surface and serve as best shot…Coached by Jose Altur and Javier Piles, who also works with David Ferrer.
