Began playing tennis at age five with parents, Gary, who is a retired general practioner and mother, Pamela, who is a retired high school history teacher...Began his junior career at age 12 and played table tennis from ages 8-15 in Australia and was No. 1 junior at 11 and No. 6 at 15...Says, "I figured I had to pick one and tennis might open up a few more doors and it's hard to compete globally"...His best junior result in Grand Slam play was a QF at Australian Open juniors in 1993 (w/Ellwood) but didn't play much on junior level...Considers hard courts and grass as best surfaces and best part of his game is return of serve...Played collegiately at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth from 1994-98 and earned a degree in Finance...Advanced to doubles final at NCAA tournament in 1996 (w/Jason Weir-Smith) and earned All-American honors in doubles in 1996-97 and played under legendary coach Tut Bartzen.
