Began playing tennis at age eight.
One of Great Britain's top juniors, ranking No. 2 in 1989.
Won the 1990 Whitbread Cup, an international junior tournament at the
Queen's Club with wins over Andrei Medvedev, Fabrice Santoro and Dirk Dier.
Enjoys golf, soccer and running.
Coached by Nick Brown and John Paish and plays out of the Nottingham
Tennis Centre.
Made big career breakthrough in June 1993 by reaching the Round of 16 at
Wimbledon in his second appearance at the All England Club. Posted his first
ever Tour wins over Thomas Enqvist, Luis Herrera and Andrei Olhovskiy before
losing to Pete Sampras. Jumped from 332 to No. XXX.
