    Played well during first four months of the year, compiling a 13-8 record, reaching QF in the Singapore Challenger, defeating Corretja en route to 3rd RD at the Australian Open (l. to Rios), reaching final at the Salinas Challenger (l. to Gross) and SF in Casablanca (l. to Arazi)...In April, posted victories over No. 5 Ivanisevic and Hirszon to help lead Austria over Croatia in Davis Cup play...The next week, defeated No. 4 Kafelnikov in 1st RD en route to QF in Estoril...Closed out April with a QF effort in Atlanta...Struggled after reaching the SF at the Venice Challenger in June, losing eight consecutive matches until reaching a QF at the Cairo Challenger in October...11 of 14 victories came on claycourts.
