  • Graham Stilwell was an outstanding junior player, winning the under-18 and under-21 British titles and finishing runner-up at the 1963 junior Australian Championships (l. to Newcombe). As a doubles player in the amateur era, he partnered compatriot Mike Sangster to the 1964 US Nationals final (l. to McKinley-Ralston), in 1967 he won the New Zealand title (w/Cox) and advanced to the Wimbledon semi-finals (w/Curtis), and the 1968 Australian Championships quarter-finals (w/Curtis). In the Open Era, Stilwell won two tour-level doubles titles at 1973-Columbus (w/Battrick) and 1973-Cologne-WCT (w/Cox), finishing runner-up at 1973-London (w/Battrick), 1973-Chicago (w/Battrick) and 1973-Copenhagen-WCT (w/Cox). He also reached the Wimbledon doubles quarter-finals in 1970 (w/Cox) and 1975 (w/Battrick). His best Grand Slam singles performance came as a qualifier in 1975, when he reached the Wimbledon fourth round (l. eventual champion to Ashe). His best singles victories came over Newcombe (Queensland State), Fred Stolle and Manuel Santana (1969 Rome), Rod Laver (1970-71 Paris Indoors), Andres Gimeno (1971 London), Arthur Ashe (1972 Toronto-WCT) and Vilas (1975 Stockholm). He attained a career-high No. 62 singles ranking (14 June 1976). Stilwell made his Debut Cup debut for Great Britain in 1969, appearing in six ties (10-2 record) that year, including the Inter-Zone final – recording wins over Ilie Nastase and Ion Tiriac. He retired in November 1975 and has since coached in Britain and the United States. Enjoys spending time with my 5 children, coaching young people and watching a variety of sports…He was a member of the British Davis Cup team 1963-69 and a founder member of the ATP.
