    Reached his first career ATP Tour final in November 1992 in Buzios,
    Brazil, where he lost to local Jaime Oncins. Broke into the Top 50 afterwards
    at No. 49, a career-high. Finished a year-end best No. 59 and earned a career
    -high $135,488.
    Also in '92, defeated Jimmy Connors in the first round at Wimbledon en
    route to the third round, the best finish by a Mexican player since Raul
    Ramirez reached the quarterfinals in 1978.
    Underwent a left shoulder operation in the summer of 1994 and was side-
    lined from April to the rest of the year.
