"Both of my parents were teachers so I never expected to be a professional," he said."It seemed like we didn't have enough money for me to play tennis, but somehow I made it."

In 2019, qualified at Australian Open and Wimbledon before advancing to US Open 3R as LL with 5-set wins over Jarry and Cuevas.
Owns 180-106 Challenger record (9-6 in finals), defeating future Top-20 players Carreno Busta and Cecchinato to reach 1st final at 2015 Mohammedia as Q.
Ended junior career as 2014 Youth Olympics gold medallist, also capturing 2013 US Open boys’ doubles title w/Ma. Redlicki and earning wins over future Top-10 ATP players Berrettini, Fritz, Hurkacz, Medvedev and Rublev.
