Upset Ivan Lendl in the second round at Stratton Mountain in 1988 and went on to the quarterfinals. ATP ranking jumped from No. 150 to 96. Made his Grand Slam debut at the 1987 US Open, defeating Marian Vajda in the first round before losing to Jim Grabb. A three-time all-Big 10 selection at Ohio State University where he is the all-time career record holder for singles victories. Also a two-time Big 10 singles champion. Majored in finance at Ohio State. Ranked No. 1 in the Caribbean Juniors and No. 1 in the Bahamas Juniors. Improved his ATP computer ranking from 482 in 1986, when he turned pro, to a year-end No. 146 in 1987. Played Davis Cup for his native Bahamas for 15 years, competed in singles and doubles at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996 and coached the Bahamian team at the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000. Lost a two-set love lead to Yannick Noah at the 1988 Australian Open before losing 16-14 in the fifth set (4 hours, 15 minutes). Compiled a 10-10 match record and earned a career-high $62,115 while finishing No. 187 on the ATP computer in 1989. Following his playing days, Roger was the Managing Director and Head Professional at The Tennis Place in Nassau, Bahamas and the Managing Director of the Bahamian LTA. Since 2003 he has been a National Coach for the USTA Player Development department.
