The American enjoyed his best season by winning two ATP doubles titles, first of his career, and reaching three other finals...Posted a career-high 37 match victories and finished a year-end best No. 35 in doubles...Only played four ATP singles matches and went winless...Enjoyed most of his success with countryman Gambill as duo compiled a 29-22 record together...He captured his first ATP title in San Jose and later in month reached final in London, losing to Adams-de Jager in third set tie-break...Five months later, reached his next final in Los Angeles but had to withdraw when Gambill injured his ankle in singles final…In August, reached fourth final of the season in Long Island…Three weeks later, won title in Tashkent (w/Gimelstob)...Earned a career-high $164,313.

Began playing at age five with his mother, Fonia, who taught tennis at a local club in Greeley, Colorado...Won USTA national junior doubles title three times (twice in 16s, once in 18s)...Finished as No. 5 junior in world in 1994, capturing Wimbledon juniors singles title (d. Philippoussis) to become first American to win that title since Matt Anger in 1981...Also a SF at Australian Open and Italian Open juniors...Graduated from Palmer Academy in Tampa in May 1994 and enrolled at Stanford University for one year...Helped Cardinal to a 27-0 record and NCAA team title in 1995 before turning pro that summer...Finished No. 7 in singles and No. 3 in doubles that year to earn All-American honors...Big Oakland Raiders football fan and Golden State Warriors basketball fan...Has a six handicap and has recorded two hole-in-ones...In October 1995 while playing a satellite in Southern California, aced a 254-yard par 3 hole at Anaheim Hills Public Country Club...In 1998, aced a 108-yard par 3 hole at Saddlebrook Palmer course in Tampa.
