He turned pro in 1986.
The National Junior College champion at No. 3 singles and No. 1 doubles
at Seminole (Fla.) J.C. in his freshman season in 1984. He was a roommate of
Mikael Pernfors at Seminole. He then transferred to Oklahoma State for one
year before playing his final two years at Flagler (Fla.) College. He was
the 1985-86 NAIA doubles champion and '86 singles champion.
Began playing tennis at age 7.
Compiled a 7-10 match record, earned a career-high $55,009 and ranked a
year-end best No. 98 (from 347) on the ATP computer in 1988.
Slipped to 318 in singles (winning only four of 16 matches), but won his
first two career doubles titles at Nancy and Charleston in 1989.
