He was the 1985-86 NAIA doubles champion and '86 singles champion. Began playing tennis at age 7. Compiled a 7-10 match record, earned a career-high $55,009 and ranked a year-end best No. 98 (from 347) on the ATP computer in 1988. Slipped to 318 in singles (winning only four of 16 matches), but won his first two career doubles titles at Nancy and Charleston in 1989.
