    ing singles All-America honors in 1986. He played at No. 1 singles for most
    of his career, posting a 28-1 match record (.965) as a freshman in 1984. In
    his All-America season, he overcame a bout with mononucleosis.
    Began playing tennis at age 6.
    Won the Swedish Junior nationals in 1977 and doubles in 1979.
    Won his first pro singles title at the Coquitlam Challenger in October
    1989, defeating Chris Pridham. Jumped from 414 to No. 288 on the ATP computer
    rankings.
