Carlos Alcaraz became the youngest player to complete the Career Grand Slam on Sunday when he lifted his maiden Australian Open title. The 22-year-old defeated rival Novak Djokovic in the Melbourne final, earning his seventh major crown in historic fashion.
Alcaraz, the World No. 1 player in the PIF ATP Rankings, became the sixth man in the Open Era to achieve the Career Grand Slam. Entering the tournament, the Spaniard had yet to advance further than the quarter-finals at the season’s first major. But Alcaraz cracked the code this fortnight and displayed his trademark resilience en route, including a five-hour, 27-minute semi-final victory against Alexander Zverev.
Alcaraz has ascended to rarified air. In the 21st century, only four players have completed the Career Grand Slam. Djokovic was the most recent to do so, in 2016, following fellow ‘Big Three’ members Rafael Nadal (2010) and Roger Federer (2009). For Alcaraz to join this exclusive list aged 22 is a record that cements his place among the legends.
Career Grand Slam (Men, Open Era)| Player | Age | Title won to complete feat |
| Carlos Alcaraz | 22 years, 272 days | 2026 Australian Open |
| Rod Laver* | 24 years, 32 days | 1962 US National Championships |
| Rafael Nadal | 24 years, 102 days | 2010 US Open |
| Roger Federer | 27 years, 303 days | 2009 Roland Garros |
| Novak Djokovic | 29 years, 15 days | 2016 Roland Garros |
| Andre Agassi | 29 years, 68 days | 1999 Roland Garros |
Nine male players have completed the Career Grand Slam in the history of the sport. Fred Perry (1935), Don Budge (1938) and Roy Emerson (1964) achieved the feat before the Open Era began in 1968. Rod Laver, the namesake of the Australian Open’s stadium court, did so in 1962 as an amateur and as a professional in 1969.
Alcaraz, who was making his 20th major appearance, improved to 7-1 in Grand Slam finals. He has won each of the other three majors (Roland Garros, Wimbledon, US Open) twice. On Sunday, Alcaraz became the second Spaniard to win the Melbourne crown, alongside his childhood idol Nadal (2009, 2022).
The World No. 1 is the youngest male in the Open Era to win seven major singles titles, ahead of Bjorn Borg, who won his seventh major title at Roland Garros in 1979, just days after his 23rd birthday.
Alcaraz has made rapid progress to where he is today. In 2022, he claimed his first major trophy at the US Open and with that triumph, he became the youngest No. 1 in PIF ATP Rankings history (since 1973). Alcaraz won his first Wimbledon trophy in 2023 and successfully defended his title in 2024. At Roland Garros, Alcaraz triumphed in 2024 and 2025.
