Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have seized control of men’s tennis and the numbers at the majors show it. Between them, the two ATP No. 1 Club members have captured the past eight Grand Slam titles. Now, at the Australian Open, they have a chance to make it nine.

The No. 1 and No. 2 players in the PIF ATP Rankings have ruled the Tour since September 2023, when Novak Djokovic lifted the US Open trophy. Since the start of 2024, Carlos Alcaraz has triumphed at Roland Garros twice, Wimbledon (2024) and the US Open (2025). Jannik Sinner, meanwhile, has claimed back-to-back Australian Open crowns, the US Open (2024) and Wimbledon (2025).

Even more remarkable, the past three major finals have all been Alcaraz versus Sinner. Should either man lift the Norman Brookes Challenge Cup this fortnight, they will have locked down nine consecutive majors between them, a feat last achieved by Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic from Roland Garros 2018 to Roland Garros 2020. Dominic Thiem halted the streak at the 2020 US Open when he beat Alexander Zverev in the final.

Nadal and Djokovic also combined for nine straight major titles between Roland Garros 2010 and Roland Garros 2012, with Roger Federer ending that run at Wimbledon.

The most recent duo to completely dominate the calendar Slam across two consecutive seasons? Federer and Nadal in 2006 and 2007, when they reeled off 10 straight majors, the longest such streak of the Open Era (since 1968). As it stands, Alcaraz and Sinner’s run already ranks fourth all-time in the Open Era.

Alcaraz is playing for the chance to complete the Career Grand Slam at this year’s Australian Open, where he has never been beyond the quarter-finals. Sinner is the two-time defending champion and is aiming to add to his four major crowns.
