Matteo Berrettini has withdrawn from the US Open due to injury.
The Italian has not competed since the first round at Wimbledon in June, when he lost to Poland’s Kamil Majchrzak in five sets. The Italian did not play at Roland Garros earlier this year due to a right oblique injury and has now missed seven majors in the past four years.
Berrettini’s best result in New York came in 2019 when he advanced to the semi-finals. The 29-year-old, currently No. 59 in the PIF ATP Rankings, is 13-11, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index, in 2025. His best result this season came in Miami, where he reached the quarter-finals.
Berrettini is the second former Top 10 player to withdraw from the hard-court major this week after Grigor Dimitrov withdrew Tuesday, snapping a 58-major streak. Brandon Holt is into the main draw and the tournament organisers have reallocated the American's wild card to Eliot Spizzirri.
