Roland Garros 2026 concluded Sunday when Alexander Zverev outlasted Flavio Cobolli in the championship match at the clay-court major.
With the victory, the 29-year-old won his first Grand Slam trophy and became the first German man to win the Roland Garros crown since Henner Henkel in 1937.

Cobolli reached his first major final at this year's Roland Garros. The Italian dropped only one set en route to the quarter-finals, where he defeated fourth seed Auger-Aliassime to reach the last four. Cobolli eventually fell to Zverev in the final. With his run to the championship match, the 24-year-old became only the third Italian, alongside Adriano Panatta and Jannik Sinner, to reach the final at Roland Garros.

It was also a special tournament for Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos, who cruised past Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten 6-4, 6-2 to win the Roland Garros doubles crown and successfully defend their title. With the triumph, the top seeds became the fifth men’s doubles team to win the trophy in Paris in back-to-back years.

While the top seeds triumphed in doubles, No. 1 seed in singles Jannik Sinner suffered an early exit in the first week when Juan Manuel Cerundolo upset the Italian in the second round. Sinner was one game away from victory in the third set before Cerundolo staged a comeback to stun the four-time major champion.

One day after Cerundolo shocked Sinner, 19-year-old Joao Fonseca sprang another surprise. The Brazilian upset 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic in the third round. Fonseca eventually advanced to the quarter-finals — for the first time at a major — where he fell to Jakub Mensik.

Djokovic was competing at Roland Garros for the 22nd time. When the Serbian began his first-round match against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, he guaranteed his record-breaking 82nd appearance in a major. Djokovic tied the mark previously shared by Roger Federer and Feliciano Lopez (81) when he competed at the Australian Open in January.

While it was a tournament of many firsts, it was also a tournament of many lasts. Gael Monfils, who is competing in his final ATP Tour season, waved goodbye to his home Slam when he fell to fellow Frenchman Hugo Gaston in the first round. Following the match, the 39-year-old was honoured in a ceremony with former French players Gilles Simon, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Richard Gasquet by his side.

Stan Wawrinka, who is also playing his final season on Tour, bid farewell to Roland Garros. The 2015 champion fell to Jesper de Jong in the first round and closed his Roland Garros chapter with a 46-20 tournament record, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index.

Moise Kouame was one of the stories of this year's Roland Garros. The 17-year-old, playing in just his first major tournament, reached the third round at his home Slam. With his second-round triumph, the Frenchman became the youngest man to reach the third round of a Grand Slam tournament since Nadal at Wimbledon in 2003.

Another rising star made history at the clay-court major this year. The 20-year-old Mensik, who had never progressed beyond the fourth round of a Grand Slam tournament, reached the last four, becoming the youngest Czech man to reach a major semi-final.

After losing in his first three major finals, Zverev finally clinched a Grand Slam title at Roland Garros by defeating Cobolli in the championship match. With the triumph, the 29-year-old became just the third German man in the Open Era (since 1968) to win a major title, joining Boris Becker and Michael Stich.
