Flavio Cobolli has qualified for the Nitto ATP Finals for the first time.
The 24-year-old clinched his spot at the season finale, which will take place in Turin from 15-22 November, when Casper Ruud defeated Rafael Jodar at the Rolex Paris Masters on Tuesday evening.
Cobolli is the fourth active Italian to qualify for the Nitto ATP Finals, joining Jannik Sinner, Matteo Berrettini and Lorenzo Musetti. He will compete alongside new World No. 1 Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Ben Shelton, Daniil Medvedev and three more qualifiers still to be confirmed.
It has been a memorable season for Cobolli, who reached his first major final at Roland Garros and claimed an ATP 500 title in Acapulco.
After winning his first match of the season at the United Cup, Cobolli lost four consecutive matches. But since then, he has played the best tennis of his career.
The Italian has beaten the likes of Zverev and Medvedev this year. Other standout results include his runs to the Wimbledon quarter-finals, the Cincinnati semi-finals and the Munich final.
But his best result to date came at Roland Garros, where he became the third man born in the 2000s, after Alcaraz and Sinner, to compete in a major final.
The final three spots in the year-end championships will be decided this week in Paris at the final ATP Masters 1000 event of the season. Jodar is currently in the final qualifying position, but the likes of Alex de Minaur and Novak Djokovic have an opportunity to pass him.
