Novak Djokovic will compete at the Swiss Indoors Basel this week for the first time since 2011.
The 39-year-old Serbian will begin his campaign at the ATP 500 indoor hard-court event on Wednesday against French lefty Ugo Humbert. It will be the pair’s second Lexus ATP Head2Head meeting, with Djokovic winning their only previous encounter at Wimbledon in 2019.
Djokovic is also targeting one of the five remaining spots at the Nitto ATP Finals, where he could earn a record 19th qualification at the season finale. He is currently 11th in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin, 319 points behind ninth-placed Rafael Jodar, who occupies the final qualification position.
A former Basel champion, Djokovic boasts a 12-2 record at the tournament, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index. He lifted the trophy on his debut in 2009, finished runner-up in 2010 and reached the semi-finals in 2011.
