Jannik Sinner’s goal of bouncing back quickly from his Roland Garros final disappointment will not be an easy one to fulfil at the Terra Wortmann Open.
The top seed and defending champion will open against a qualifier at the grass-court ATP 500 in Halle. He could then face a fellow former titlist in each of his next two rounds.
The 2023 winner Alexander Bublik is a potential second-round opponent for Sinner, with the Kazakhstani taking on Alexandre Muller in his opener. The 2022 champion Hubert Hurkacz, who starts against seventh seed Tomas Machac, is a potential quarter-final opponent.
Sinner is bidding to quickly put behind him the memory of Roland Garros, where he held three championship points before falling to Carlos Alcaraz in last Sunday's final with another deep run on the Halle grass.

The No. 1 in the PIF ATP Rankings, Sinner’s potential semi-final opponents in Germany include fourth seed Andrey Rublev (who opens against a qualifier), eighth seed Karen Khachanov (who plays Zizou Bergs) and Felix Auger-Aliassime (who plays a qualifier).
Second seed Alexander Zverev, who reached the championship match in Halle in 2016 and 2017, will begin his latest campaign at OWL Arena against Marcos Giron. Zverev has won all three of the pair’s previous Lexus ATP Head2Head meetings, including a straight-sets triumph on grass at Wimbledon last year.
Another former Halle champion, Ugo Humbert, is in Zverev’s quarter and will begin his campaign against Denis Shapovalov. A stacked section of the draw also includes a big-hitting battle between Lorenzo Sonego and home wild card Jan-Lennard Struff, and the fast-rising Joao Fonseca against Hamburg champion Flavio Cobolli.
Daniil Medvedev, who arrives in Halle just two victories short of his 400th tour-level win according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index, opens against home hope Daniel Altmaier. The third seed's potential quarter-final opponents include fifth seed Francisco Cerundolo and Stefanos Tsitsipas, who is preparing for his first event alongside new coach Goran Ivanisevic.
