Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten have reached a major career milestone, climbing to the top of the PIF ATP Doubles Rankings for the first time.

Their joint rise to World No. 1 was secured at Roland Garros, where they advanced to their third major final as a team. Finland's Heliovaara and Great Britain's Patten arrived as joint No. 4s, but did not lose a set en route to the title match before losing to Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos.

“No. 1 shows that we have done so many things right in the last 12 months,” Heliovaara said. “We were very close to it last year here. We have learned from it and we have got further and further. Now we are No. 1s of the world, so I think that shows that even if we didn't do it last year, we could do it now.”

The Finnish-British partnership has established itself as one of the dominant forces in men’s doubles, with their rise to World No. 1 reflecting a remarkable run of success since they first teamed in 2024. Prior to Monday, both players had risen as high as No. 3, and Heliovaara and Patten now sit on top of the world having built an impressive résumé packed with the sport’s biggest titles.

Their breakthrough came at Wimbledon in 2024, where they captured their maiden major crown in dramatic fashion. The pair saved three championship points before defeating Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson 6-7(7), 7-6(8), 7-6(9) in an unforgettable final. It marked the first major title for both players.

They backed up that success in 2025 by winning a second major at the Australian Open and finishing the season in style by lifting the Nitto ATP Finals trophy.

The momentum has continued in 2026. Heliovaara and Patten have already claimed four titles this season, including a prestigious ATP Masters 1000 crown in Madrid, further cementing their status as one of the tour’s elite teams.

Together, they have amassed 12 titles, a remarkable return that includes two ATP Masters 1000 trophies and two major crowns.

“It's an amazing achievement and one that we have been trying to achieve for a while,” Patten said on climbing to the top. “The No. 1 spot is probably a mark of consistency throughout the year and I think every tennis player dreams of being No. 1 in the world. It's nice to share it with Harri.”

Patten becomes just the fifth British man to reach the summit of the PIF ATP Doubles Rankings, following Jamie Murray, Joe Salisbury, Neal Skupski and Lloyd Glasspool. For Heliovaara, the achievement makes him only the second Finnish man to become World No. 1 in doubles, joining Henri Kontinen.

Heliovaara and Patten are the 67th and 68th players to rise to No. 1 in the PIF ATP Doubles Rankings, respectively.
