Jannik Sinner’s shock second-round defeat to Juan Manuel Cerundolo at Roland Garros on Thursday has dramatically altered the complexion of the top half of the men’s draw at the clay-court major.
Only six seeded players now remain in the top half of the draw, including World No. 6 Felix Auger-Aliassime, while several experienced contenders and emerging stars will sense a major opportunity. Former Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini and US Open semi-finalist Frances Tiafoe are among those in contention.
There are a host of young stars aiming to make their move, including 17-year-old Frenchman Moise Kouame, 20-year-old Martin Landaluce and reigning Next Gen ATP Finals champion Learner Tien.
There are 16 players remaining in the top half of the Roland Garros draw: Juan Manuel Cerundolo, Martin Landaluce, Matteo Berrettini, Francisco Comesana, Jaime Faria, Frances Tiafoe, Matteo Arnaldi, Raphael Collignon, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Brandon Nakashima, Moise Kouame, Alejandro Tabilo, Flavio Cobolli, Learner Tien, Francisco Cerundolo and Zachary Svajda.
There is just one Grand Slam finalist remaining in the top half of the draw: Matteo Berrettini. The Italian reached the Wimbledon final in 2021, where he lost to Novak Djokovic.
Having battled injuries in recent seasons, Berrettini is rediscovering some of his best form in Paris, where he is into the third round. He also enjoyed success at the clay-court major in 2021, when he reached the quarter-finals.
Three Grand Slam semi-finalists remain in the top half of the draw: Felix Auger-Aliassime, Frances Tiafoe and Matteo Berrettini. Auger-Aliassime is a two-time major semi-finalist, having reached the last four at the US Open in 2021 and 2025. Tiafoe has also made two Grand Slam semi-finals, both coming at his home major in New York in 2022 and 2024.
As well as his run to the Wimbledon final in 2021, Berrettini also advanced to the final four at the US Open in 2019 and the Australian Open in 2022.
Six seeded players remain in the top half of the draw, led by fourth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime, who is the only Top 10 player left in that section. Tenth seed Flavio Cobolli, 18th seed Learner Tien, 19th seed Frances Tiafoe, 25th seed Francisco Cerundolo and 31st seed Brandon Nakashima are also still in contention.
Felix Auger-Aliassime is the highest-ranked player remaining in the top half of the draw at No. 6 in the PIF ATP Rankings. The Canadian has never progressed beyond the fourth round at Roland Garros. He faces Brandon Nakashima in the third round on Saturday.
The youngest player remaining in the top half is 17-year-old French wild card Moise Kouame. With his five-set victory against Adolfo Daniel Vallejo, Kouame became the youngest man to reach the third round of a Grand Slam tournament since Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon in 2003.
Fellow #NextGenATP player Martin Landaluce, 20, is also into the third round of a major for the first time in his career.
There is one Next Gen ATP Finals champion in the top half of the draw: Learner Tien. The American, who faces Flavio Cobolli in the third round, is riding a six-match winning streak after capturing the title in Geneva last week.
