Ben Shelton’s plea has been heard.
After defeating lucky loser Marton Fucsovics on Saturday in the third round of Wimbledon, the American explained to the crowd that he had a dilemma.
“I have a great team. My parents are here, my girlfriend’s here. Also, my sister’s here,” Shelton said. “She’s been here for every match that I’ve played at this tournament so far. She’s been the lucky charm. But she has work back in the U.S. starting on Monday.”

As Shelton continued his explanation, the crowd began to boo at the notion that his sister needed to return to work.
“Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Come on, now!” Shelton said to stop the crowd.
“She works for Morgan Stanley, so if any of y’all have some connects and [can] get her a couple extra days off so we can keep this rolling that’d be great.”
With those words, a smiling Shelton earned cheers from the crowd and his laughing sister covered her face in disbelief. However, the plea proved worthwhile.
By the end of the evening, Shelton posted a video on his Instagram Stories: “Yo, you’ve got the week off or what?” he asked. His sister jumped up and down in celebration.
Shelton concluded: “Shoutout Morgan Stanley!”
The 10th seed will face Lorenzo Sonego on Monday in the fourth round. It will be the pair’s third Lexus ATP Head2Head meeting of the year, with both coming at the season’s first two majors. Shelton defeated Sonego at the Australian Open and Roland Garros.
