Top seeds Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have learned their possible paths towards a potential fourth consecutive meeting in a final following the release of the Cincinnati Open draw Tuesday.

The expanded 12-day ATP Masters 1000 series tournament begins on Thursday, the same day that the final of the National Bank Open Presented by Rogers final will be contested in Toronto.

Of the past three events they have both played, Sinner and Alcaraz have met in the final, with Alcaraz taking the honours in Rome and Roland Garros before Sinner snapped a five-match losing streak against the Spaniard in the Wimbledon final. They are locked in a two-man battle for ATP Year-End No. 1 presented by PIF honours.

Defending champion Sinner will open against a qualifier or World No. 80 Czech Vit Kopriva. The reigning Nitto ATP Finals champion is seeded to meet big-serving Canadian youngster Gabriel Diallo in the third round, American 13th seed Tommy Paul in the fourth round and fellow Italian Lorenzo Musetti in the quarter-finals.

Second-seed Alcaraz, who fell to Novak Djokovic in the 2023 title match in arguably the greatest three-set final in ATP Masters 1000 history, plays his first match against the winner of Italian Mattia Bellucci and Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Damir Dzhumur.

Fourth seed Taylor Fritz, who joins Sinner in the top half, opens against Croatia’s Borna Coric, the 2022 Cincinnati champion, or Australian Christopher O’Connell.

Third seed Alexander Zverev, who is through to the Toronto semi-finals, joins Alcaraz in the bottom half. He faces the winner of French veteran Gael Monfils and American wild card Nishesh Basavareddy in the second round.
