Sinner, Djokovic practise together at Wimbledon

Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic will soon discover their route to a potential Wimbledon showdown when the draw is made on Friday. In the meantime, the two stars have already shared the spotlight at the All England Club.

Sinner and Djokovic practised together on No. 1 Court on Thursday afternoon, when they continued their preparations for the season’s third major. Their session was a reminder of last year’s Wimbledon semi-final, in which Sinner defeated Djokovic on his way to capturing his first title at SW19.

Both players are set to return to tour-level competition next week following disappointing exits at Roland Garros. Sinner suffered a surprise second-round loss to Juan Manuel Cerundolo, while 19-year-old Brazilian Joao Fonseca rallied from two sets down to stun Djokovic in the third round.

Sinner, the No. 1 player in the PIF ATP Rankings, is chasing his fifth major title. The 24-year-old had been riding a remarkable 30-match winning streak before his defeat in Paris, having won all five ATP Masters 1000 events this season and completed the Career Golden Masters with his triumph in Rome.

Djokovic, meanwhile, is targeting a record-equalling eighth Wimbledon crown. The Serbian reached the semi-finals of all four major tournaments last season and would draw level with Roger Federer for the most Wimbledon men’s singles titles in the Open Era with another triumph this year.

Main-draw action at Wimbledon begins on Monday, 29 June, and concludes with the men’s singles final on Sunday, 12 July.
