Defending Mubadala DC Open champion Alex de Minaur faces an immediate test on his return to Washington, taking on former World No. 3 Stefanos Tsitsipas in one of several standout first-round match-ups revealed in Saturday’s draw.
De Minaur trails Greek wild card Tsitsipas 1-12 in the pair’s Lexus ATP Head2Head series and Tsitsipas won their previous meeting this year on hard courts in Miami. If De Minaur can advance, he could eventually meet seventh seed Jakub Mensik in the quarter-finals and third seed Taylor Fritz in the semis.
The No. 10 player in the PIF ATP Rankings Fritz opens against Zizou Bergs, who won his maiden tour-level title on grass in Eastbourne in June. The American Fritz, who reached the semi-finals in Washington in 2023, could play Tommy Paul in the second round. Paul opens against Kamil Majchrzak.
In a battle between two of the Tour’s hottest prospects, eighth seed Arthur Fils and 19-year-old-Spaniard Rafael Jodar will meet in a first-round blockbuster, with the winner facing Kei Nishikori or Shang Juncheng. Shang is competing for the first time since Dubai in February.
Fils leads Jodar 1-0 in their Lexus ATP Head2Head series. Both have lifted one tour-level trophy in 2026 and will be keen to add to that tally this week at the ATP 500 hard-court event.
Second seed Ben Shelton begins against a qualifier and could play Ugo Humbert in the second round. Frances Tiafoe is Shelton’s seeded quarter-final opponent. Lorenzo Musetti is the fourth seed and is returning to court for the first time since his fourth-round exit in Rome in May. The Italian meets Roland Garros semi-finalist Matteo Arnaldi in the first round. Musetti and Shelton are seeded semi-final opponents.
British wild card Jack Draper, who is still working with Andy Murray, plays American Alex Michelsen in the first round, with the winner facing fifth seed Learner Tien or Adrian Mannarino. Draper withdrew from Wimbledon due to injury last month.
Dimitrov faces #NextGenATP Frenchman Kouame in Los Cabos
Grigor Dimitrov will take on 17-year-old Moise Kouame in the first round at the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo in Los Cabos. The winner could then meet top seed Jiri Lehecka in the third round. Lehecka plays Darwin Blanch or Coleman Wong in his opener at the ATP 250 hard-court event.
The 18-year-old American Blanch is using a Next Gen Accelerator spot to compete. In 2026, players aged 20 and under ranked inside the Top 250 can receive one main-draw spot and two qualifying spots at certain ATP 250 tournaments. Read more here.
Seventh seed Martin Landaluce is also in the top half and meets American Michael Zheng in an intriguing first-round match. Defending champion Denis Shapovalov faces Rinky Hijikata, while 2021 winner and fifth seed Cameron Norrie takes on Aleksandar Kovacevic.
Luciano Darderi is the second seed and meets Adam Walton or Dalibor Svrcina in his first match, while third seed Francisco Cerundolo plays Gabriel Diallo or a qualifier.
Washington runs from 27 July-2 August. Los Cabos will be held from 27 July-1 August.
