Alexander Zverev returns to Wimbledon not only as a reigning major champion, but also with a chance to make ground on Carlos Alcaraz in the battle for No. 2 in the PIF ATP Rankings.
Fresh off lifting his maiden major trophy at Roland Garros three weeks ago, Zverev has renewed his pursuit of a return to World No. 2 for the first time since May last year. The German exited in the first round at Wimbledon in 2025, falling to Arthur Rinderknech, meaning he is defending just 10 points at the All England Club this time around.
Zverev now has 7,190 points in the PIF ATP Live Rankings, with Alcaraz — who is out with a wrist injury — at 8,160 points. If Zverev reaches the Wimbledon final, he would overtake the Spaniard and reclaim the World No. 2 spot for the first time since May last year.
After this year's Australian Open, then-World No. 1 Alcaraz led Zverev, then World No. 4, by 9,045 points. Now the German is within 970 points of the Spaniard.
The second seed begins his campaign against 21-year-old Belgian Alexander Blockx and could face Taylor Fritz in the quarter-finals. Defending champion Jannik Sinner and 24-time major winner Novak Djokovic are in the opposite half of the draw.

Zverev is not the only player with a rankings opportunity at Wimbledon. Daniil Medvedev, who also suffered a first-round exit in 2025, has a chance to move closer to a return to the Top 5 for the first time since January last year. Since the 30-year-old can only gain points with each victory at SW19, he will be able to claw closer to his rivals. He opens against 2017 Wimbledon finalist Marin Cilic.
Alexander Bublik is another player looking to take advantage of a favourable points situation at SW19. The Kazakhstani fell to Jaume Munar in the opening round last year and arrived in 2026 as the World No. 11. Bublik could return to the Top 10 with a strong run at Wimbledon, where his best result is a fourth-round showing in 2023. The 29-year-old has won two ATP 500 titles on grass in his career (both in Halle).
Bublik trails Roland Garros finalist and live World No. 10 Djokovic by 350 points in the PIF ATP Live Rankings, leaving the race for a Top 10 place firmly within reach this fortnight. Live World No. 9 Fritz is just five points ahead of Djokovic.
Rafael Jodar has the opportunity to continue his remarkable rise during a standout first half of the 2026 season. The 19-year-old Spaniard, who was ranked World No. 554 at this time last year, is the 23rd seed for his Wimbledon debut — and his first tour-level grass-court event.
Jodar is the No. 25 player in the PIF ATP Live Rankings after capturing his maiden ATP Tour title in Marrakech in April and reaching consecutive quarter-finals in Madrid, Rome and at Roland Garros. The #NextGenATP star now has another chance to build on his rapid ascent with no points to defend at Wimbledon.
