Began playing tennis at age seven when his mother, Irina, saw the sport
on television and encouraged their only child to play. Father, Nickolai, is a
doctor of technical science.
Enjoys reading and favorite authors are Rudolf Steiner and Carlos Casta-
seda.
Played at the Spartak tennis club in Moscow, the same one countryman
Andrei Chesnokov used while training. Also had the same coach, Tatiana Naumko
as Chesnokov.
The 1989 Russian junior champion.
