Started playing tennis at a young age...Traveled two hours by car each day from his home in Lemgo to train at the tennis center in Halle...At age 15, got own small apartment in Halle to be closer to training facility...Father, Michael, and mother, Claudia, are both retired...Brother, Johannes, is former 14 & Under European Champion but no longer plays competitively...Has one sister, Stephanie...Nicknamed "Toto" by family members because he could not pronounce his name properly as a child and it often just came out "Toto"...Enjoys snowboarding in Austria and France...Waited to turn pro until he completed high school.
