Turned pro in 1991. Defeated Tomas Carbonell in the Spanish National Championships in 1990 and finished second in the Spanish Sat. #5. In 1991, he upset Jordi Arrese in the Spanish National Championships en route to the quarterfinals. He qualified in his first ever tour stop at Estoril in April 1992, and upset Ronald Agenor in the first round before losing to top 10 Ivan Lendl 57 64 62.
