Reached Punte del Este Challenger final (l. to Mantilla), then went 7-15 until July...Broke out of the slump and reached a career-high No. 90 on July 8 after winning title in Ulm Challenger (d. Alami), then reaching final in Ostend (l. to Champion) the next week...In September, injured his left quadricep during his 1st RD match in Bucharest against Berasategui...Retired again in his next match in Palermo, also against Berasategui...Missed rest of season with the injury...Finished 4-13 on claycourts, 0-5 on other surfaces...Was only player in Top 130 to not play a tie-break during year...Earned a career-high $120,545.
