  • Long-time British No. 1 Roger Taylor won six tour-level singles titles (6-7) and nine doubles trophies (9-7). He reached the 1970 Australian Open semi-finals, 1973 Roland Garros quarter-finals, 1967, 1970, 1973 Wimbledon semi-finals and the 1969, 1971 US Open fourth round. He played 17-year-old debutant Bjorn Borg in 1973 Wimbledon quarter-finals and was the seventh different British man to reach the Wimbledon semi-finals since the abolishment of the Challenge Round in 1922. He won two US Open doubles titles in 1971 (w/Newcombe) and 1972 (w/Drysdale). Taylor was the sole British member of "Handsome Eight" signed by Lamar Hunt to complete on World Championship Tennis tour in 1968. He retired from professional tennis in 1980, having reached a career-high No. 11 (13 Sept. 1973). He was a British Davis Cup player (1964-67, 1973-76), amassed a 26-9 record. Was a one-time trainer of British women's Wightman Cup team. Replaced David Lloyd as Great Britain's Davis Cup captain in February 2000 and stayed in the role until the expiry of his contract in January 2004. Bio: James Buddell - August 2009
