One of the most aggressive players on the tour who dives continuosly for
shots on the court. Vitas Gerulaitis said, "Every match I've played with him
he always comes out bleeding. One of these days, he's going to kill himself.
Nicknamed "Rambo" and "Dr. Dirt" on the NGP tour.
He gained national attention in the 1986 U.S. Open, being the only Amer-
ican to reach the quarterfinals -- also his best Grand Slam result.
All six of his singles titles have come outside the U.S., winning twice
in Sydney and Auckland along with a championship in Vienna and Nancy.
Coached by former pro Woody Blocher since 1983.
He wears an ATP cap during his matches no matter if its indoors or out-
doors because he says the cap blocks out distractions.
Turned pro in 1977.
Earned a career-high $174,438 in 1985 and finished No. 44 on the ATP
computer, his second best finish (39 in 1984).
Surpassed the $1 million mark in career earnings at Indian Wells, Calif.
in March 1988.
Compiled only an 8-16 singles record, but reached four doubles finals,
winning two, in 1989. Finished No. 124 on the ATP computer in 1989, his
second straight ranking outside the top 100 (121 in '88).
