
Carlos Alcaraz announced his withdrawal from the National Bank Open Presented by Rogers on Monday.
The Spaniard took to social media to inform his fans and explain the decision.
“After many consecutive weeks of competition without rest, I will not be able to play in Toronto this year,” Alcaraz wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “I have small muscle issues and I need to recover physically and mentally for what comes next. To the tournament and to my fans in Canada I am very sorry, I will see you next year!”

The No. 2 player in the PIF ATP Rankings most recently competed in Wimbledon, where he fell in the final to World No. 1 Jannik Sinner. Alcaraz owns a 48-6 record this season according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index and has claimed five titles, including the Roland Garros trophy.
The National Bank Open Presented by Rogers begins on Sunday and this year the ATP Masters 1000 tournament will expand to 12 days, with the final set for Thursday, 7 August.
